Comprehensive glossary of aviation ground handling terms, abbreviations, and industry terminology used at airports worldwide
A
ACMI — Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, Insurance. A type of wet lease where an airline provides aircraft with crew to another operator. Bali Ground Handling provides handling for ACMI operations at DPS.
AEP — Aerodrome Emergency Plan. The airport’s comprehensive emergency response plan covering aircraft accidents, bomb threats, and natural disasters at DPS.
AFQRJOS — Aviation Fuel Quality Requirements for Jointly Operated Systems. International standard for aviation fuel quality that Pertamina follows at DPS.
AHM — Airport Handling Manual. IATA publication defining ground handling procedures and standards globally. Basis for our service delivery at DPS.
AIP — Aeronautical Information Publication. Official document containing all information essential for air navigation, including DPS aerodrome data.
AOG — Aircraft On Ground. Urgent maintenance situation where an aircraft cannot fly until repairs are completed. Our technical services coordinate AOG response at DPS.
APU — Auxiliary Power Unit. Self-contained engine providing electrical and pneumatic power when main engines are shut down during ground time.
ARFF — Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting. DPS maintains ICAO Category 9 ARFF capability.
ASU — Air Start Unit. GSE providing compressed air for aircraft engine starting. Part of our GSE fleet.
ATC — Air Traffic Control. Manages aircraft movements in the air and on the ground at DPS via Ngurah Rai Tower and Bali Approach.
AVSEC — Aviation Security. The security program governing access control, screening, and threat prevention at airports per CASR Part 175.

BEW — Basic Empty Weight. The weight of the aircraft without payload, fuel, or crew. Starting point for load control calculations.
CASR — Civil Aviation Safety Regulations. Indonesian aviation regulations issued by DGCA, covering all aspects of civil aviation including ground handling requirements under Part 174.
CG — Center of Gravity. Critical parameter in aircraft loading, calculated by load control to ensure the aircraft is balanced within approved limits.
Chocks-On/Off — The moment wheel chocks are placed (arrival) or removed (departure), marking the official start and end of an aircraft’s ground time.
CLS — Computerized Load Sheet. The primary flight safety document produced by load control, confirming the aircraft’s weight and balance compliance.
D-F
DCS — Departure Control System. Computer system managing check-in, boarding, and load control. We operate ALTEA, SITA eDCS, and GoNow systems at DPS.
DGCA — Directorate General of Civil Aviation. Indonesian aviation regulatory authority issuing ground handling licenses and oversight. Our licensing authority per CASR Part 174.
DGR — Dangerous Goods Regulations. IATA manual governing the transport of hazardous materials by air. Our cargo team is DGR certified.
DOW — Dry Operating Weight. Aircraft weight including crew but excluding fuel and payload.
DPS — IATA airport code for Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali. ICAO code: WADD. See our airport guide.
E-CD — Electronic Customs Declaration. Required digital customs form for all international arrivals in Indonesia. See customs guide.
FBO — Fixed Base Operator. Facility providing services for general/business aviation. Bali Ground Handling provides FBO-equivalent services at DPS.
FOD — Foreign Object Debris. Any object on the ramp that could damage aircraft. FOD prevention is a core element of ramp safety.
G-L
GPU — Ground Power Unit. GSE providing electrical power (28VDC/115VAC 400Hz) to aircraft while on the ground, allowing APU shutdown. Part of our GSE fleet.
GSE — Ground Support Equipment. All specialized vehicles and machinery used for aircraft servicing, from pushback tractors to belt loaders. See our GSE page.
IATA — International Air Transport Association. Global airline industry body that develops standards including SGHA and AHM used in ground handling.
ICAO — International Civil Aviation Organization. UN agency setting global aviation standards and recommended practices (SARPs).
ILS — Instrument Landing System. Precision approach aid at DPS, CAT I on both runway 09 and 27 approaches.
ISAGO — IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations. International safety audit program for ground handling companies.
LIR — Loading Instruction Report. Document from load control to ramp team specifying cargo/baggage distribution per compartment.
LMC — Last Minute Change. Any change to passenger count, baggage, or cargo after the initial load sheet, requiring load control recalculation.
M-R
MICE — Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions. Major industry vertical we serve through MICE ground handling at DPS.
MTOW — Maximum Takeoff Weight. The maximum certified weight at which an aircraft is allowed to take off. Critical parameter in load control.
NOTOC — Notification to Captain. Document informing the flight crew of special cargo, dangerous goods, or live animals loaded on their aircraft.
OCC — Operations Control Center. Airline hub managing flight operations. Our Operations Control Center at DPS coordinates ground handling activities 24/7.
PCO — Professional Conference Organizer. Companies managing MICE events that we support with airport logistics.
PSU — Passenger Service Unit. Overhead panel containing reading lights, air vents, oxygen masks, and call buttons.
S-Z
SGHA — Standard Ground Handling Agreement. IATA contractual framework defining ground handling services. Basis for all our airline service agreements.
SID/STAR — Standard Instrument Departure / Standard Terminal Arrival Route. Published flight procedures for departing and arriving aircraft at DPS.
SMS — Safety Management System. Systematic approach to managing safety risks required by DGCA regulations for all aviation organizations.
STD/STA — Scheduled Time of Departure / Arrival. Published flight schedule times against which ground handling performance is measured.
Turnaround — The complete process of servicing an aircraft between arrival and next departure, coordinating all ground handling activities simultaneously.
ULD — Unit Load Device. Pallets and containers used to load baggage, cargo, and mail on aircraft. Managed by our cargo and ramp teams.
VOA — Visa on Arrival. Most common entry visa for tourists visiting Indonesia through DPS. See customs and immigration guide.
WADD — ICAO airport code for Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali. IATA code: DPS.
ZFW — Zero Fuel Weight. Maximum aircraft weight excluding usable fuel, a critical structural limit in load planning.
